Visited my daughter at school and took a few night shots. Taken 2.18.05 with nikon n75, fuji provia 100. I wanted to work this a little in photoshop to bring out some detail in the golden dome but don't really have the time now so decided to post the way it is. This was difficult to bring out detail in both the sky and the brightly lit dome. I decided since it was a night shot I would rather show some stars since it was a clear night with a good moon. It was so cold that night that all I wanted to do was get inside...:)

Box camera photo. 1930 Eastman Kodak 50th anniversary camera. Used kodak tmax 400. From my readings on the internet the exposure is probably around f11 - f16 at about 1/30 - 1/60 second.

This image was taken with a 1930 Eastman Kodak 50th anniversary box camera. This old camera belonged to my great aunt Clara and was just discovered in my mom's basement with a roll of exposed film. The film in the camera was fogged and had no images. I thought I'd get a roll of 400 b&w and give it a try. To my surprise it worked. It uses 120 film and the negative is 6x9 cm size.

I love using this old camera, it's so simple with no decisions to be made, except the subject.

Lake Mighigan. Sorry no stars, it was overcast hiding the moon and the stars. Way off in the distance if you look real close just under the glow in the sky you can see some city lights of a town in michigan. I'm not 100% sure but it's probably New Buffalo, MI. I don't know where the slight pinkish color in the snow is from. Taken 2.19.05 using nikon n75, fuji provia 100, f 8 at 4 minutes.

This was shot the night before my previous post, on friday 2.18.05. Luckily the sky was clear. While exposing this a large jetliner flew through the frame on it's landing glide path. You can see the red line and dots where it flew by.

I went out to get some night shots and just my luck the sky clouded over and blocked the moon and stars. Since I had already made the trip I decided to shoot a roll anyway. This image was taken on 2.19.05. Provia 100, f8 for 4 minutes.

The glow along the horizon are the lights along lake michigan from indiana on the left to chicago, IL, on the right. If you look closely just to the right of the red light on the left under the catwalk you can see smoke from a stack at the gary, IN, steel mills. I liked the way this 3:1 crop looked. Since I didn't have stars in the sky I didn't feel the need to keep the big sky so I cropped it off.

This shot really doesn't show the long exposure 'smooth water' or any other long exposure attribute but since I took it at night and it's a 2 minute exposure I posted it anyway. I was told to also post mistakes and this is one of many. I've not yet been able to get any skies to show up on any of my night shots. I'm gonna work on that.

This shot, #4, seems to have more blue in the sky, and the only reason I can think of is that the exposure was only 120 seconds, and possibly the color shift was not as great as the other, longer exposures. I'm not really sure, but that's my guess.

And yet, another lighthouse shot from Michigan City, Indiana. I actually had the tripod set in the water for this one. You may notice on the lower left the subtle change in tone of the water. There is actually a slight drop off from the beach out a few feet into the water. I'm surprised this even showed up at all.

Another shot of the Michigan City, Indiana, lighthouse. This time from the pier. It was a little slippery out there but as you can see there are plenty of footprints in the snow. It wasn't as wavy as I would have liked it to be.

I was debating on whether or not to clone out the red/blue lens flare by the edge of the lighthouse, but I decided to leave it since it was part of the image.

The difference in color between this image, velvia 100, and my previous image, provia 100 is striking. I like both but I lean to provia as it seems to be more colorful.

This is my second attempt at getting some long exposure night shots, at Lake Michigan, of the lighthouse in Michigan City, Indiana. My first attempt ended with every frame being WAY underexposed. With some tremendous guidance from Bob at notraces regarding long exposure night photography and Kyle at c-41 regarding general night photography, I came up with this image, and other images to follow in the next few days.

It's amazing, because all night for some reason I thought I was overexposing everything, but now I wish I had opened up a stop or 2.

The chicago skyline is usually visible between the two lights, but this night, no chicago.

Last night I snapped some timed night images at Lake Michigan at Michigan City, Indiana. I hope to get them processed and scanned within a couple days and hopefully, I'm keeping my fingers crossed, if they turn out half way decent, I'll be posting them later this week.

The tree was damaged in the ice storm yesterday, that's the reason for the weird shape. A true infrared image 'almost' desaturated. The original image has much more reddish, pinkish color. I kinda liked the way this looked partially desaturated.

This is another true infrared image. Taken under hazy and cloudy conditions so the whites in the vegetation are not as pronounced as on a sunny day.

This may not look totally like a true infrared image, but it is. The day was overcast with fog and mist, with no sun. Infrared is more pronounced with a bright sun. That barn may not be around much longer...
